Karakia for Rotorua Museum
Tuesday, 2 July 2024
Today marked an important milestone for the Rotorua Museum project, with a Karakia to commence construction and the handover of the site to Watts & Hughes Construction.
Kingi Biddle and Leo Rika carried out the Mihi and Karakia alongside representatives from Ngāati Whakaue, as mana whenua, Te Pūkenga Koeke o Te Whare Taonga o Te Arawa and Te Arawa.
Mayor Tania Tapsell acknowledged all the mahi that has led to this point, and re-iterated the significance of the Bath House building, as a taonga of Rotorua and New Zealand, which is now in the hands of the construction crew.
Initial works will be inside the building, with roofing and exterior works on the North Wing set to begin in August.
